The set retains a notable provenance, bearing the armorial bookplate of Scottish author and collector John Waldie of Hendersyde Park. Waldie's extensive and documented library was well-regarded in the 19th century, adding significant historical context to these specific editions. Bound in half-leather with marbled boards, the bindings utilize raised bands, intricate gold gilt tooling, and contrasting red and green morocco spine labels. The text provides biographical accounts of notable literary figures, offering a well-researched perspective standard of Timbs's antiquarian work.

Specs
Maker/Artist: John Timbs (Author), Richard Bentley (Publisher)
Year Made: 1862
Materials: Leather, marbled paper, paper
Dimensions: 7 7/8" H x 5 1/4" W x 1 1/4" D (per volume)

Condition
The set shows expected antique wear, including rubbing to the leather extremities, hinges, and raised bands, alongside surface scuffs and localized color loss to the marbled boards.
