Believed to be of late 19th to early 20th-century European origin, this dual-purpose piece reflects an era when written correspondence was an art form. In Victorian symbolism, the pomegranate was highly regarded as a motif representing abundance, eternal life, and prosperity. Its incorporation into this design serves as a quiet nod to lasting success and intellectual harvest. The hinged pomegranate opens to reveal a well for ink or small desk sundries, while the adjacent floral cup holds a small sealing wax taper. A heavy, authentic patina has developed over more than a century of use, elevating the sculptural and historical presence of the piece for a study or curated workspace.

Specs
Year Made: 1890s–1910s
Materials: Solid Brass
Dimensions: 3.5" H x 6" W x 5" D

Condition
The piece exhibits heavy, authentic patina throughout, including verdigris and visible white residue deep within the pomegranate and across the leaf crevices.
