Instruments from the Leitz factory are highly collected for their mechanical precision and historical importance in the advancement of modern microscopy. This specific piece carries the distinct provenance of a working laboratory tool, evidenced by the practical addition of a Zeiss Winkel mechanical stage—an adaptation commonly made by scientists requiring specialized slide manipulation.
A heavy, enameled base anchors the instrument, supporting the intricately machined brass tubes and adjustment knobs. The setup includes an original fitted wooden transit case with dovetail joinery, a sliding wooden rack containing extra eyepieces, original Leitz objective lenses (including a 1/12 oil immersion lens), and a detached "Perfect" brand microscopy lamp. The heavy patina across the brass elements speaks directly to decades of rigorous laboratory use, offering significant historical value to collectors of medical and scientific antiquities.

Specs
Maker/Artist: Ernst Leitz Wetzlar (Microscope), Zeiss Winkel (Mechanical Stage)
Year Made: 1930s
Materials: Brass, enameled steel, optical glass, wood
Dimensions: 14.5 x 6 x 8 inches (Microscope); 15.5 x 8.5 x 10 inches (Wooden Case)

Condition
This instrument exhibits heavy, expected age-related wear, including significant patina and oxidation to the brass elements, as well as surface wear on the black enamel and wooden case.
