Gorshunova Russian Lacquer Hand-Painted Vessel

This Russian lacquer vessel is a documented example of late-20th-century Eastern European folk art. Signed in Cyrillic by the artist, S. Gorshunova, and dated 1992, the piece reflects the transitional era of post-Soviet miniature painting. The exterior displays a continuous hand-painted village celebration scene complete with traditional architecture, birch trees, an accordion player, and figures in traditional dress. The painting demonstrates high precision, particularly in the delicate gold filigree work and facial expressions. The core is constructed of lightweight turned wood or papier-mâché, serving as a structural canvas for vibrant pigments sealed under layers of clear lacquer. An original retail sticker on the base traces its early import history into the Western market.

Specs
Maker/Artist: S. Gorshunova (С.
