Each piece is individually hand-thrown, evidenced by the subtle variations in form and the hand-incised signatures on the underside. Dated 1982 and marked with the artist's initials "JL," this set captures the transition from mid-century rusticism to the refined "Country Chic" aesthetic that dominated the early 80s.

The use of a speckled "oatmeal" glaze was a hallmark of boutique ceramicists during this era, intended to mimic the natural imperfections of the earth. The unique scalloped relief work at the base of each mug adds a sophisticated structural element, elevating these from simple kitchenware to collectible pieces of functional art. Finding a complete, matching set of six signed studio pieces from this period is increasingly rare, making this a significant find for collectors of vintage North American pottery.

Condition Report
These mugs are in exceptional vintage condition. There are no chips, cracks, or visible crazing to the glaze. As they are handmade, slight variations in the density of the speckling and the depth of the hand-carved scallops are present, which serves to authenticate their artisanal origin.

Specifications
Height: 3.0 in (7.6 cm)
Diameter (Rim): 3.5 in (8.9 cm)
Width (With Handle): 4.75 in (12.1 cm)
Weight: Approx. 10 oz (283 g) per mug

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1029/1327/8133/files/p1_62162237-8d7e-4c10-bb1f-0852e0cc4bbb.jpg?v=1788581220
https://thegildedfossicker.com/products/vintage-studio-pottery-mugs-set-of-6-speckled-stoneware-coffee-cups-1982-2d1d128c
