A piece of early 20th-century optical history, this pair of antique rimless pince-nez eyeglasses comes housed in its original hard case from O.S. Mitchell, a pioneering druggist and optician who arrived in Weyburn, Saskatchewan, in 1903. O.S. Mitchell is notable as the father of celebrated Canadian author W.O. Mitchell, adding a unique layer of historical provenance to the set.
The delicate rimless frames are constructed of 1/10 12k gold-filled wire and secure via a classic pince-nez nose bridge. The spectacles are accompanied by an elegant ear hook and chain drop, a design meant to tether the piece securely during wear. The accompanying black ribbed case opens to reveal a vibrant purple velvet interior, bearing the original gold foil stamp of the Weyburn pharmacy. This pairing represents a beautiful intersection of Edwardian optical craftsmanship and Canadian prairie history.
