These original hand-colored aquatints originate from Pierce Egan’s 1821 publication, Life in London; or, The Day and Night Scenes of Jerry Hawthorn, Esq., and his elegant friend Corinthian Tom. Drawn and engraved by brothers Isaac Robert and George Cruikshank, the plates capture the societal exploits and glaring class dichotomies of Regency-era England. Egan's work established a foundation of British urban satire that heavily influenced Victorian literature and illustration.

The pair provides a transparent, critical look into 19th-century London life. "An Introduction" portrays a lively parlor interaction between Corinthian Tom, Jerry, Bob Logic, and Corinthian Kate, serving as a satirical critique of the posturing and superficial refinement of the era's high society. Conversely, "Midnight" depicts a chaotic, cross-class brawl inside a coffee shop near the Olympic Theatre, exposing the gritty reality of urban nightlife where societal rules completely disintegrate. The prints retain highly visible watercolor detailing, emphasizing the energetic linework the Cruikshank brothers are recognized for, and are housed in mid-century wooden frames.
