Originating from the grand ballrooms of 19th-century Austria, this 1896 Carnet de Bal carries a remarkable historical provenance. Created by the esteemed Atelier F.W. Papke of Vienna—a renowned purveyor of luxury goods and master bookbinder to the Imperial Court—this piece was commissioned specifically for the Wiedener Bürgerball held on February 3, 1896. The intact interior booklet acts as a time capsule of the era, listing musical selections by celebrated composers such as Eduard Strauss and Franz von Suppé.
Intricate gilt metalwork forms a diamond-shaped lattice case, anchored by a vivid green and white enamel four-leaf clover. The piece hangs elegantly from a chatelaine clip and chain, finished with a delicate beaded tassel. Inside, rich red fabric framing securely holds the original printed dance card. It is a stunning artifact of Viennese high society and a highly collectible piece of ephemera.
