Produced in the 1930s by the Bagley Manufacturing Company of Pawtucket, Rhode Island, this Art Deco locket exemplifies an era defined by bold geometric shapes and elongated silhouettes. During the roaring twenties and the subsequent decade, flappers popularized wearing long chain necklaces that would elegantly swing alongside their dropped-waist dresses, making tassel-adorned lockets like this one a fashionable statement piece. The pendant showcases true guilloché, an intricate and labor-intensive metalworking technique where a precise, repetitive pattern is mechanically engraved into the underlying sterling silver. Translucent white glass enamel is then fired over the textured surface, creating depth and a luminous backdrop for the hand-painted pink rose motif.
