This miniature cut-glass vanity jar belongs to the tradition of small silver-topped pots used on a dressing table. Such jars kept small quantities of toiletries covered and close at hand; this one may have held a cream or another cosmetic, although its original contents are not known. Its removable lid gives access to the full opening, unlike a narrow-necked scent bottle designed for liquid.

The broad flat facets act like small windows into the glass, repeating views of the star cut beneath the base as the jar turns. Above them, flowers and curling stems rise from the silver lid, giving the surface depth without the weight of a solid sculptural ornament. The combination makes a practical little container decorative enough to leave on display. Today it would be a lovely covered place for a small keepsake on a dressing table.
