This Doulton Burslem crescent centerpiece is a stunning example of the decorated tablewares produced at the Staffordshire works around the turn of the twentieth century. Henry Doulton became involved with the Burslem pottery in 1877, extending the firm's work into finely decorated wares. This piece carries the crowned Doulton Burslem England mark.
The sweeping crescent and raised ends give this bowl its unusual character, framing the painted bouquet above an ornate pedestal. Gilt detailing follows the rim and picks out the moulded scrolls around the foot, with delicate floral decoration continuing onto the exterior. It is a beautiful piece to display empty on a sideboard, where its sculptural shape and fine decoration can be enjoyed together.
