Originating from late 19th-century France, this double inkwell desk stand exemplifies the meticulous art of champlevé enamel. The labor-intensive technique involves casting intricate troughs into the solid brass body, which are then carefully filled with vibrant, fired vitreous enamels. This specific piece displays a complex floral and geometric scrollwork motif in striking shades of cerulean blue, deep cobalt, rose, and pale yellow, all anchored by the rich, unpolished patina of the aged brass. The sweeping, asymmetrical rococo-revival silhouette holds two hinged inkwells topped with decorative cast finials. Such ornate desk accessories were highly prized during the Belle Époque era, serving as both functional office tools and signifiers of sophisticated taste. The craftsmanship and historical provenance make it a highly collectible piece of antique writing history.
