This two-piece salad serving set was manufactured by the Gorham Manufacturing Company in the Strasbourg pattern, originally patented in 1897. Designed during the height of the Rococo Revival period, the pattern employs intricate scrollwork and plumed shell motifs. The bowls and tines retain a gold-washed vermeil finish, an application historically utilized to protect the sterling silver from the acidity of foods. The handle fronts bear a period-correct engraved name, "Grace," in traditional script. Pieces of this caliber carry a collectibility premium well beyond their intrinsic precious metal content.
