This early-twentieth-century purse stands out for its intricate mesh, which remains in very good condition and drapes softly beneath the engraved frame. The small blue details at the clasp and scalloped fringe give it character without overwhelming the delicate metalwork. A little larger than a typical coin purse of the era, it measures 4 inches across the frame and 4½ inches through the fringe, excluding the chain—a generous example of the small purses carried for coins and other essentials.
The frame bears the G&Co mark and is stamped SOLDERED, an appealing construction detail: solder joins the ends of the mesh links, helping keep them closed more securely than unsoldered links. The mesh retains its flexibility, while the chain handle completes the design. With its well-preserved mesh and understated decoration, this is a lovely example for a collection of antique accessories.
