An exquisite example of early 20th-century American silvercraft by the esteemed Watson Company of Attleboro, Massachusetts. The piece displays a striking transitional design, bridging the organic textures of the Arts & Crafts movement with the structured geometry of early Art Deco. A highly textured, hammered finish catches the light beautifully across the paneled, fluted body, drawing the eye upward to a scalloped rim. The upper edge is detailed with delicate, pierced geometric cutouts that provide a sense of lightness to the heavy silver gauge. The distinct Watson Company hallmarks and pattern number 9400 are stamped clearly on the underside. It serves beautifully as a standalone sculptural object or a vessel for dried botanicals.
Specs
Maker: Watson Company
Year Made: 1920s
Materials: 925 Sterling Silver
Dimensions: 10 1/8" H x 3 1/4" W x 3 1/4" D
Condition
The silver retains a heavily tarnished, unpolished patina that accentuates the hammered detailing. There is a visible vertical split in the sterling silver where the fluted stem meets the pedestal base, which does not compromise the vase's ability to stand upright but should be carefully noted by collectors.
