This antique Wave Crest dresser box reflects the attention once given to dressing-table accessories, with painted pink flowers on pale-blue glass and a satin-lined interior. It belongs to the decorated opal-glass line associated with the C. F. Monroe Company of Meriden, Connecticut, at the turn of the twentieth century. Opaque glass provided a ground for painted decoration, here with pale-blue shading, pink flowers, raised scrollwork and enamel detailing. The underside bears the Wave Crest mark.
Dresser boxes kept jewelry and small personal accessories together on a dressing table. This example has a hinged lid, an ornamental metal collar and a clasp, with blue satin lining inside. The lining carries the exterior color into the interior. It is a lovely reminder of the care once given to even the smallest dressing-table accessories.
