Produced during the late 19th to early 20th century, this functioning parlor clock exemplifies the transition between late Victorian architectural design and the organic motifs of the Art Nouveau movement. Timepieces from this era operated as significant focal points in American parlors, serving simultaneously as status symbols and functional art. The intricate pressed brass pendulum bob, displaying a nymph or goddess with flowing hair among natural elements, is highly indicative of Art Nouveau styling and drives the collectability of the piece.
A pronounced brass lion head mount on the top crest and heavy turned wooden side columns lend the piece architectural gravity. The glass door displays a reverse-painted gold sunburst and interlaced motif. A sturdy, dark-stained wooden case anchors the timepiece, while an ornate brass dial with stylized Arabic numerals completes the visual impact. The mechanical brass movement is in working condition, making this a substantial historical artifact for collectors of turn-of-the-century horology.
