This original oil on canvas by Bill Atkinson has a quiet, misty quality that feels very grounded. Atkinson’s work often focuses on these soft, atmospheric lake scenes, and this piece is a great example of his ability to capture light through haze. The texture in the foreground—the rolling grass and the small autumn-colored bushes—gives the painting a nice depth that pulls you toward the still water in the distance.
It’s housed in a vintage faux-bamboo wooden frame with a gold finish and a linen liner, which was a popular high-end framing choice in the 1970s. On the back, there’s still a gallery tag from a frame shop in Kalamazoo, Michigan, which adds a nice bit of provenance. It’s a versatile piece that would look just as good in a modern room as it would in a more traditional space.
