Randy Strong Iridescent Art Glass Vase, 1974

Signed R. Strong and dated 1974, this finely worked vase is an early example by Randy Strong, a pioneer of California studio glass whose work is represented in the Oakland Museum of California. Strong began working in glass in 1969 at the California College of Arts and Crafts, placing this piece within the first five years of his practice. The dated signature adds particular interest for collectors, documenting an early chapter in the artist’s career.

The vase itself has a distinctive, understated elegance. Fine gray feathering follows the rounded body through pale green and cream glass, complemented by a softly flared blue-green rim. Its subtle iridescence brings out different passages of color as the light changes, rewarding closer examination of the surface. The combination of carefully balanced form, intricate decoration and early dated authorship makes this an appealing addition to a studio glass collection, with enough individual character to stand beautifully on its own.
