This bangle is a classic artifact of the late 19th-century Bohemian jewelry trade, originating from the historic garnet-mining regions of Central Europe. During the Victorian era, these deep-red pyrope garnets were prized for their saturated, wine-like hue and were frequently exported across the continent. This piece uses the traditional "tombak" setting—a specialized copper-zinc alloy designed to mimic the appearance of gold—finished with a delicate gold wash to enhance the brilliance of the stones.
The bangle has a continuous row of round cabochon-cut garnets, each individually secured within the metal channel. These smooth, domed "carbuncle" stones offer a soft, glowing luster that differs from the more common rose-cut facets found in similar jewelry of the period.
