Produced by the renowned Chalet Artistic Glass studio in Cornwall, Ontario, this mid-century figurine is a fascinating example of Canadian glassmaking history. Made in partnership with the American distributor Riekes, this heavy lead crystal piece is highly collectible, retaining its original black and gold foil maker's label. The label authenticates the piece as being handcrafted with over 24% lead content, giving the glass its distinct clarity and substantial weight.
The figurine presents a highly stylized, abstract animal form with an arched back, a blunt snout, and a dramatically sweeping tail. Often debated by collectors as representing a cat, a squirrel, or a skunk, the fluid, smooth lines of the clear crystal catch and refract light beautifully, making it an excellent conversation piece for a mantle, bookshelf, or desk.
