This sophisticated stoneware bowl is a prime example of the American Studio Pottery movement, bearing a fluid, hand-incised artisan signature on the base. The design is deeply rooted in the Mingei (Japanese Folk Art) tradition, characterized by its "Hakeme" style brushwork. This technique uses a coarse brush to trail cobalt and ash-grey glazes across the speckled clay body, creating a sense of rapid, organic movement that celebrates the "hand of the maker."

A standout feature of this piece is the tri-notched rim. These intentional indentations serve both an aesthetic and functional purpose, acting as stable resting points for serving utensils while nodding to the traditional form of Korean and Japanese tea bowls. The heavy stoneware construction and the sophisticated, muted palette suggest a craftsman working in the late 20th-century Pacific Northwest tradition, where the intersection of rugged organic form and daily utility was a primary focus for regional potters.

Condition Report
This bowl is in excellent vintage condition. There are no chips, cracks, or visible repairs. The interior glaze retains a high-gloss finish, and the unglazed foot ring shows minor shelf wear consistent with age. As a hand-thrown piece, slight variations in the glaze and small "pinholes" in the surface are part of the original firing process and add to its authentic wabi-sabi character.
