The Westerwald region of Germany is historically celebrated for its salt-glazed stoneware, an art form defined by its supreme durability and distinctive pebbled texture. Produced in West Germany during the mid-20th century, this pair of wine pitchers showcases traditional cobalt blue slip over grey clay. The smaller pitcher carries a post-war maker’s mark identifying it as a Zöller & Born piece and displays the proverb "Trink Edlen Wein Aus Kühlem Stein" (Drink noble wine from cool stone). The larger, one-liter vessel bears the inscription "Trinkt Wie Eure VÄter Den Wein Aus Stein" (Drink like your fathers, wine from stone). Intricate relief work of grape clusters and vines anchors both pieces, a classic motif representing the rich viticulture of the Rhine region. Though originating from different specific potteries within the region, they pair seamlessly together, holding significant value for collectors of mid-century European ceramics and traditional barware.
